Sara Bareilles is Incredible

December 5, 2013

I don’t listen to music much over commercial radio which means occasionally I come late to the party. Prior to a few months ago I had never heard of Sara Bareilles.  Within a few short weeks I purchased her entire discography. Bareilles writes most of her material, sings all of it. She can write aching loves songs to pop tunes that would work for top 40 or even country. But I guess a lot of people already know that.

In 2011 she released a single titled “Love is Christmas.” You can find it here.
In 2008 she teamed up with Ingrid Michaelson and wrote “Winter Song. It’s not necessarily a Christmas tune — but it fits.
And then this year on her outstanding CD, Blessed Unrest, she performs a tune titled December.

In an interview somewhere I read Bareilles sometimes gets the blues during the Christmas season — the song December comes from that place. It seems to me “Winter Song” is a similar sentiment.
“Love Is Christmas” is simply a love song and a beautiful tune. I’ll feature all three tonight, starting with Love Is Christmas.

Love Is Christmas

I don’t care if the house is packed,
Or the strings of light are broken.
I don’t care if the gifts are wrapped,
Or there’s nothing here to open.

Love is not a toy, and no paper will conceal it.
Love is simply joy that I’m home.

I don’t care if the carpet’s stained; we’ve got food upon our table.
I don’t care if it’s gonna rain, our little room is warm and stable.

Love is who we are, and no season can contain it.
Love would never fall for that.

We sing oooooooooooooooo

Let love lead us, love is Christmas.

Why so scared that you’ll mess it up? When perfection keeps you haunted.
All we need is your best my love, that’s all anyone ever wanted.

Love is how we do, let no judgment overrule it.
Love I look to you, and I sing.

Let love lead us, love is Christmas.
Let love lead us, love is Christmas.

December

Winter Song – The Head & The Heart

December 3, 2012

Some of the songs i post this month are not overtly “Christmas.” Some are simply seasonal songs. This one is seasonal.

It’s titled “Winter Song,” and is written and performed by a Seattle band called The Head & The Heart.

They have one cd out — self titled – released in 2011.

Very odd photo on the video (it’s the cover photo of the cd ). So try to ignore the creepy photo and enjoy a wonderful tune.
