Everything But The Girl – Sort Of

Tracey Thorn was the lead singer for Everything But The Girl (EBTG), a band she founded with her future spouse, Ben Watt. From the early 80’s through 2000, EBTG received eight gold, and two platinum album BPI Certifications in the UK, and one gold album RIAA Certification in the US. Their song Missing was a #2 Billboard hit in the states in 1995.

Thorn is also a columnist for the New Statesman and has just released her second book, Naked at The Albert Hall: The Inside Story of Singing. “Part memoir, part wide-ranging exploration of the art, mechanics and spellbinding power of singing, Naked at the Albert Hall takes in Dusty Springfield, Dennis Potter and George Eliot; Auto-tune, the microphone and stage presence;”

In 2011, Thorne released a Christmas record, Tinsel & Lights. I’ll feature three songs from that record tonight, the title track, Tinsel & Lights (covered by Train on their 2015 release, Christmas In Tahoe),  25th of December (a remake of an EBTG tune, and Joy, a beautiful song that features her husband Ben and their children on vocals.
